I will lift my eyes . .

Psalm 123:1

I will lift my eyes to You, to You whose throne is in heaven.

The writer of the Psalm lifted his eyes to God, waiting and watching for God to send His mercy. The psalmist not only lifted his eyes up as a prayer gesture but also the eyes of his mind and his understanding and the eyes of his faith. He looked for help and salvation from the Lord. As God, Creator and Maker of all things the psalmist visualizes God sitting on His throne, surrounded by angels and those who have gone before.
