The sinful nature wants to do evil which is opposite of what the Spirit wants.

Sin is something that we don’t like to talk about – don’t like to think about. The apostle Paul describes the two forces which war within us. The Spirit of God and the sinful nature. The advice that he gives is to “walk in the Spirit”. He doesn’t say that our sinful nature is gone when we become children of God. There is a constant conflict within, the forces are as different as light and darkness and are enemies to one another. If we follow our flesh or humanness we will not be able to carry out the good that we want to so spend each day controlled by the Holy Spirit. As we read in the book of Galatians, God speaks to us about our sin in many different ways.

Galatians 5:16-17
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

One Response to The sinful nature wants to do evil which is opposite of what the Spirit wants.

  1. So many people in the church are imitating the world with their mouth and everything else. The world says to follow your heart, but the Lord says that the heart is deceitful. Especially those who have followed after the decetful teachings of the false prophets follow the whims of their own hearts. They do not know the voice of the Lord because they have given themselves over to lying spirits.
