1 Timothy 6:10-11
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. But you Timothy are a man of God so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
This verse of the bible is very often misquoted as money is the root of all evil. It is not money itself and there may be a reason when in need of the necessities of life, but an insatiable desire after it is properly called idolatry. When someone loves it above God and serves it as if it was God and puts his trust in it away from God, it would be classified as idolatry. Some covet it and desire riches and forsake their faith. Sometimes riches are compared to thorns as both give great trouble and uneasiness in getting and keeping them. We are to flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness.
