Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.”
Cain and his brother Abel had both given their offerings to God. Abel had given some of his finest lambs and Cain had given crops as Abel was a shepherd and Cain was a tiller of the land. The crops Cain had given to the Lord were not acceptable – they must not have been his best. God rejected Cain’s crops and the above words from God to Cain were are a warning. The sin God spoke of is what Cain did next. He brought his brother Abel out into a field and killed him. What kind of sin crouches at our doors? Have we mastered it? The warning God gave Cain was one that we too have to heed even today. The constructive criticism that God gave Cain was one that he would remember for the rest of his life. We need to do better and not be so full of pride and ourselves that we make the same mistakes that Cain did. Precious Abba – thank you that Your Word is faithful and true from the beginning to the end of it!!!
