When gold is heated the impurities float to the top and are skimmed off. The process happens again and again until the goldsmith can see his reflection in the gold. The same thing happens when we go through trials. There are all kinds of trials we will face and they will differ by the intensity and temperature of the trial. When we go through a trial we are made stronger – our faith remains strong and our impurities are skimmed off. Just as the goldsmith sees his reflection in the gold after it is purified, when God looks at us after we are purified He can see His Son Jesus in us. Our faith is more precious than gold. Gold after refining is used up and is made into rings or necklaces or earrings. Our faith, when tried with the fire of trials and afflictions gets stronger and it grows.
1 Peter 1:6-7
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
