Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights He fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to Him, “If you are the Son of God tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No, the Scriptures say, people do not live by bread alone, we are to live, be upheld, and be sustained by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Therefore humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
When Jesus faced the devil in the wilderness, His answers were, no, the Scriptures say, the Scriptures say, the Scriptures say…. We too face times of trials, tribulation and temptations and the bible tells us to take on the whole armor of God to withstand the wiles of the devil. His Word which is called the sword of the Spirit was used by Jesus in the wilderness against the devil, that is instruction to us that we are to take the same method in dealing with satan and his forces of evil. When we pray or recite the Word of God the enemy must flee from us. As we enter into these 40 days leading up to Resurrection Sunday the devil will be prowling around looking for someone to devour. Keeping our eyes fixed on Christ and His Word hidden in our hearts we too can face the devil with confidence and assurance that he will flee from us!
