And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city and the Lamb is its light.
Light represents what is pure and holy and true and it also exposes whatever exists. Darkness represents sin and evil and satan is in control of a realm of evil. Darkness cannot exist in the presence of light. This passage describes what eternity will be like and the precious Lamb of God who is light Himself will illuminate the city. The same light that shone around the shepherds at Jesus’ incarnation will be enjoyed and the glory of God will be seen.
