For Forty Days . .

It may sound like I am doing the same verse over and over again if you just read the first part of it – but it is not. In telling the story of Christmas and the birth of Jesus – I find it very important to also add His ministry, death, resurrection and the account that the disciple of Jesus, John writes when he is describing what the Lord showed him about heaven in the book of Revelation.
They had returned to Bethlehem to be registered for the census, Joseph and Mary his wife and while they were there the days were completed for her to be delivered. The inn’s were full and they had no room to dwell in so were out in a stable with the livestock .
Luke 2:6

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
Fast forward for a moment to the ascension of Jesus . . . .

The ascension of Jesus. He appeared to His followers for 40 days after His resurrection. Forty is a significant period of time in the Bible. Moses went to the mountain to meet with God for 40 days. The devil tempted Jesus for 40 days and nights in the wilderness. He sits at the right hand of His Father. He sent His Holy Spirit to the earth to indwell His followers. He gave us His Great Commission to share of Him to the ends of the earth. And He is returning!!!!
Acts 1:3, 8-9

During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.
