Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by. Psalm 57:1 (NKJV)
King Saul spent years consumed with the idea of ending David’s life. At a time when he should have been basking in the blessings of God, Saul was obsessed with one notion—kill the son of Jesse, so Saul’s position as Israel’s king would be secure. The issue was not a wrongful act or a betrayal by David. It involved Saul’s jealousy and inability to submit to God’s authority.
By refusing to react to Saul’s anger, David found a place of rest in God’s presence. he was not drawn aside by negative thoughts or feelings or inadequacy, but instead sought strength and refuge under the wings of God (Psalm 91:4).
God did not immediately deliver David. Years passed before he sat on Israel’s throne. Yet God watched over His servant and protected his every move. The process of molding David’s heart into one of godly principle and character began in the brokenness of life.
No matter what you face, God has a plan for you. Ask Him to show you where to go from here.
