Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:4 (NKJV)
A woman in Bangladesh holds her limp child and wails—the victim of yet another cyclone.
A son is awakened from his sleep with a call informing him of his father’s sudden death. He grieves.
A Kansas wheat farmer looks numbly at his hail-flattened field and buries his weathered face in his calloused hands to hide his tears.
JESUS WEEPS with you as He wept at the news of Lazarus’s death. In your agony He, too, is pained. He is not an automated, austere Sovereign, immune to your suffering, but a merciful High Priest who can “sympathize with [your] weaknesses” (Hebrews 4:15 NASB).
Jesus came as the suffering Messiah, the slain Lamb, the tear stained and bleeding Savior. HE UNDERSTANDS and comforts your deepest sorrows. He not only understands but actually asks you to cast your burdens and place your heartache on His shoulders so that He might sustain you in your anguish. He knows how you feel and comes tenderly to your aid.
