We also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)
If most of us were to make topographical maps of our spiritual walks, they would probably look like a range of mountains jutting heavenward with many spiritual peaks and dropping just as sharply into spiritual valleys. That is because maintaining a consistent walk with Jesus Christ is one of the most difficult challenges we face.
Think for a moment. What is the primary culprit that disturbs your rest and confidence in God? Is it not reacting to your circumstances?
We are too dependent on the external things of life, which rise and fall like the stock market, to govern our relationship with God. That is not the way God designed it. As believers we have the unchanging, steady, indwelling presence of Jesus Christ. He can handle and solve anything.
The internal control of Christ will lead you into a daily, deliberate walk with God. Whatever happens you turn over to Him, asking Him to sustain, strengthen, and guide you. Such confidence and trust in Him stabilize your journey.
