Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2
Have you ever seen the devastating effects of an earthquake? Maybe you are even a survivor of an earthquake. The terror of such an experience is overwhelming: The ground shakes, and structures bend, warp, explode, and fall. Things that seemed so permanent are heaps of rubble. Towers that seemed solid and substantial are on the ground. It is a sobering reminder of the impermanence of earthly things.
That’s why it is so critical to set your focus on the things that don’t change, the things that cannot be destroyed. Paul urged,
“If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:1-4 NASB).
Your identity in Christ places your true citizenship in heaven. In a real sense, you don’t belong here, where things pass away and change continually. It’s been said that the only two things that are eternal, your time is not wasted. And best of all, one day you’ll see the investments of your life come to fruition in heaven.
Lord, I want to invest my time in eternal things. I want to see the investments of my life come to fruition in heaven.
