John 14:21-23

That was the true Light which gives light to every man who comes into the world. John 1:9

Too many people go to church and come home without discovering the personal love of Jesus Christ. Some may even be baptized and still not know the intimate love of the Savior. They never develop a one-on-one relationship with the Lover of their souls. God has called us to worship Him, but even before this He calls us to intimate fellowship with Him. In the Garden of Eden He walked in the cool of the day with Adam and Eve. Throughout history, He has continued to reach out to mankind.

His greatest display of love and devotion comes to us through the life of Jesus Christ. However, as A. W. Tozer writes in The Pursuit of God,

“To most…God is an inference, not a reality. He is a deduction from evidence which they consider adequate, but He remains personally unknown to the individual.”

The responsibility of relationship is not all God’s. We must have a desire to know Him, walk with Him, and enjoy His company. He habitually reveals Himself to us, but are we seeking His presence?

“As we…focus upon God, the things of the spirit will take shape before our inner eyes,” continues Tozer. “Obedience to the word of Christ will bring an inward revelation of the Godhead (John 14:21-23)…There will be seen the constant shining of the ‘true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (John 1:9).

Lord, give me the desire to know You better, walk with You, and enjoy Your company. Reveal Yourself to me as I wait in Your presence.
