PRAYER and ANXIETY

Psalm 69:1-3

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Prayer plays an important role in handling anxiety. Prayer is an out-cropping of faith. When you pray in faith, you declare you need to God. Anxiety, however, represents the absence of faith.

Peter instructed us, “[Cast] all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 NASB). Older saints such as Charles Spurgeon, Amy Carmichael, and Hudson Taylor would use the term “to roll” all your cares on Him. This act of rolling gives us a mental picture of what it means to give our troubles to the Lord. We actually release them into His care and walk away from the situation in such a way that we are no longer anxious over the matter. We say, “Lord, I want to roll this problem onto You.” What a great sense of encouragement awaits you when you give Jesus the problems and trials of your heart!

He is your Burden Bearer, and He will accept every care perfectly onto Himself. He is sovereign. All-powerful. Holy. Righteous. Infinite in wisdom. His mercies never cease, and He has an eternal love for you that will never end. Sounds like someone you can trust? Try Him and you will see!

Lord, You are holy, righteous, and infinite in wisdom. Thank You that Your mercies never cease.
