These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 (NASB)
There is a familiar sound in this passage. It is the combination of words and the way they are stated that bring thoughts of our Lord to mind: “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13, NASB).
Jesus often used the phrase “These things I have spoken to you . . .” Christ’s words always reflected the truth of God, and the Lord’s messenger, John the Beloved, continued the work of putting forth the TRUTH.
Keep in mind, the apostle John was an eyewitness to the miracles and teaching of Christ. We could say that He literally sat in God’s classroom. It is from this point of view and the fact that God’s personal anointing was on John’s life that he wrote to the early church and to all who place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Certain things in God’s Word cannot be overlooked or denied. The truth John gave us is not truth expounded by man but truth taught and illuminated by the Holy Spirit. God has made the way of salvation clear. Faith in Jesus Christ saves us (John 3:16).
Truth has been given “so that you may know that you have eternal life.” There is no hesitation here. God forgives and saves all who call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a point of spiritual security that no one can remove.
Father, thank You for the truth that forgives guarantees my spiritual security.
