Psalm 84:1-7
Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. Psalm 84:5
On an early morning walk around their college campus, two students came to a snow-covered football field. One friend said to the other, “I bet you can’t walk across the field and leave a perfectly straight line of footprints in the snow.”
Not being one to refuse a challenge, the student accepted. He began at one end zone, carefully plodding down the field. His eyes remained focused on his feet, only occasionally glancing up to judge how much farther he had to walk. When he finished, the two young men ran up the stadium stairs to get a clear view of the field. From there, they noticed how crooked and off center the line of footprints were in the snow.
The disappointed student issued the same dare to his friend. “No problem,” the challenger replied. Starting at one goal post, he walked rather quickly from one end of the field to the other. When finished, the two ascended the steps to evaluate the tracks. The footprints were in a perfectly straight line!
“How did you do it?” the first boy asked.
The other responded, “Simple. I just forgot about my feet and focused all of my attention on the opposite goalpost.”
In your Christian walk, where is your attention—on your own accomplishments or on the goal? If your life has gotten a little off center, ask Christ to help realign your steps by keeping the Cross in constant focus.
Lord, sometimes my feet get out of step because I’m too busy contemplating the path to righteousness, rather than the goal. Help me keep my eyes on the Cross that leads me there.
