Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” Luke 24:36
The disciples were startled by the figure before them. Though they had received reports that Jesus had risen from the dead, seeing Him in the room was almost too much for them to process. Jesus calmed them from the shock—”Peace to you”—understanding that there are some things too difficult for earthbound minds to grasp right away.
Have you ever experienced the Lord working in an amazing, supernatural manner and become frightened? Perhaps God’s provision startled you and you realized your dependence upon Him. That is why God sent the Holy Spirit—to calm you and give you peace.
E. Paul Hovey writes, “The word ‘Comforter’ as applied to the Holy Spirit needs to be translated by some vigorous term. Literally, it means ‘with strength.’ Jesus promised his followers that ‘The Strengthener’ would be with them forever. This promise is no lullaby for the faint-hearted. It is a blood transfusion for courageous living.”
In the midst of God’s will, you may find yourself astonished, startled, and overwhelmed at what the Lord is doing around you. However, allow Him to speak peace to you through the Holy Spirit, and you will be able to face any situation with strength and maturity.
Holy Spirit, as the transfusion that injects courage into my Christian life, keep me from lacking faith in Your leadings.
